U.S.-based OmniVision Technologies Inc. has announced that it is the world’s smallest video image sensor, the OV6920 sensor, which is a CMOS type and has a width of only 1/18 inch, while similar image sensor widths are 1/12 to 1/7 inch. The overall chip size of the color video signal is 2.1 x 2.3 mm and can be mounted on a 3.2 mm camera body.

This 2.1mm/2.3mm CSP chip makes less invasive to many patient medical operations, making the specific medical equipment such as disposable cameras, intubation systems, and endoscopes smaller in size for use with infants and smaller children.
The OV6920 is said to be the industry’s only 1/18-inch image sensor, and the OV6920 sensor has a sensitivity of 111.5 megapixels. OmniVision has previously developed the smallest (3.2mm diameter) Camera Chip product.
