Biosensor and nanosensor industry report released

US market research firm BCC Research released last month an industry report entitled "Microelectromechanical Systems: Biosensors and Nanosensors" (MEMS: Biosensors and Nanosensors).

The BCC predicts that the market share of global micro-sensor 1 will be approximately US$5.2 billion in 2010 and will increase to US$5.9 billion in 2011; by 2016, this figure will become US$12 billion. The compound annual growth rate for 2011-2016 was 15.3%.

Among them, the MEMS sensor occupies most of the micro sensor market. It is estimated that in 2011, this market will reach US$3.2 billion; in 2016, it will be US$6.5 billion; and the compound annual growth rate between 2011 and 2016 will be 15.5%. The market share of nanosensors will increase from 0.1% to 0.3%. Although the volume is the smallest, it is fastest growing. In 2011, the market for nanosensors was estimated at US$6.5 million; in 2016, it was US$38 million; the average compound annual growth rate between 2011 and 2016 was 42.7%.
