The European Commission announced on December 14 that it welcomes the new legislation passed by the European Parliament on the prohibition of the addition of phosphate to household detergents and restrictions on other phosphorus-containing chemicals. This means that the timetable for “limited phosphorus†in household detergents is already clear. Domestic industry experts believe that due to early preparations, the implementation of the European version of the new ban on phosphorus will not have a substantial impact on China's phosphate industry and will have minimal impact on the export of detergents.
The European Parliament passed this regulation to make it clear that after June 30, 2013, European countries will ban the addition of phosphate in household detergents and limit other phosphorus-containing chemicals; after January 1, 2017, this regulation will apply to home automation. Wang Peilin, deputy secretary-general of the China Inorganic Salt Industry Association, told reporters that the ban on phosphorus and phosphorus in household detergents has been implemented in EU countries as well as China. The domestic phosphate industry has long been preparing. First, domestic phosphate detergents used in domestic detergents have had very little exports. Second, domestic production in this area is not large. The Inorganic Salt Association has already done work and reminded domestic companies not to blindly launch phosphate projects. Therefore, the construction of domestic phosphate projects is basically in an orderly state, and the implementation of the European version of the ban on phosphorus will not have a substantial impact on China's related industries.
Relevant person in charge of the China Detergent Industry Association also stated that the implementation of the European version of the Ban-Limited Phosphorus New Deal has little impact on China's related industries. At present, in the household detergent market in China, phosphate-free products account for more than 70%. Phosphorus-containing detergents have not been available in big cities such as Beijing and Shanghai; and phosphorus in some provinces in the Northwest and other regions is seriously insufficient. The use of phosphorus-containing detergents is beneficial to increase the phosphorus content of the soil, thereby improving soil fertility. Phosphate manufacturers for domestic detergents have long since changed their development methods and sought applications for their products in other fields.

However, when phosphate-laden detergents are discharged into the natural world, they will promote the increase of nutrients in the water, resulting in the proliferation of algae, the formation of "enrichment" of the water body, or the phenomenon of "red tide" and "bloom".
