Recently, Andy Palmer, a senior vice president of Nissan Motor Co., took over the International Van of the Year (IVoY) award for the Nissan NV200 Global Light Commercial Vehicles of the Year. The award ceremony was held at the Nissan plant in Barcelona. The NV200 models produced at this factory will be sold to the European market. At the ceremony, Pieter Wieman, Chairman of the IVoY Jury, personally presented the award.
IVoY prizes are awarded each year to the most outstanding contributions made to improve the transport efficiency of the light commercial vehicle type. With a score of 161 points, the NV200 scored a high of 107 points and won recognition from a jury of representatives from 23 countries.
“Especially impressed by the jury members, the NV200 Compact Light Commercial Vehicle sets a new standard in terms of interior space and size,†Pieter Wieman said. "The NV200 also has excellent design, compact models, superior quality, and excellent fuel economy."
"We have a huge promotion plan for the NV200," Palmer said. “On a global scale, we plan to sell this model in markets with large differences in Japan, Europe, and China. At the same time, we will also consider markets such as North America, India and Indonesia. We plan to sell more than 35,000 vehicles a year in Europe. In view of the above plans, it is of great significance to us to win the IVoY Award to help expand the popularity and reputation of the NV200 before the sale begins, Palmer said.
NV200 achieved a true breakthrough in the market segment. Its exterior dimensions are only equivalent to the vans developed on the basis of the car platform, while the storage space has reached the standard of higher-level models. In the body of 4.4 meters long, 1.69 meters wide and 1.86 meters high, the NV200 provides a great storage space. The intelligent loading system can provide a loading area of more than 2 meters long enough to accommodate two European standard trays at the same time. The floor height of the underbody is the smallest in the same class, only 524 mm. Based on the above design, the NV200 achieves a loading space of 4.2 square meters, which is 25% higher than the competitors (approximately 1 square meter).
The NV200 sold in Europe will have two models: Van (a pure truck type) and Combi (a combination of passenger and cargo models). The NV200 Home Edition will be launched in 2010. At the same time, Nissan Motor recently announced that the electric light commercial vehicle developed based on the NV200 will become the second electric vehicle that Nissan will promote on a large scale.
